Dottie was a member of the Town Hill United Methodist Church, where she had served  as secretary of the women’s organization and assisted with several activities and fund raisers.

She worked for several organizations earlier in her life, but enjoyed those that involved sewing of any sort. At one time she had a maternity clothes shop in her home, with all being handmade. She also did cross stitch, made doll houses, and any kind of crafts.  Her latest adventure was quilting, belonging to  “The Willing Hands Quilters” since the early 1980’s. Dottie also enjoyed talking to people about the old days when she was young and sang in a group known as “Cactus Kate & Her Yodeling Ramblers”. The group was made up of her brothers and sisters. Her father died at an early age and this helped the family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor L. Long on Feb. 22, 1998; by a son, Duane Long on Oct. 10, 1990; two granddaughters: Tammy Smith on April 13, 1985 and Michelle Mattern on March 28, 2009; two son in laws: James Wasson and Donald Smith; a brother, Richard McHenry; sister in laws: Rose McHenry; Hilda (Long) Yager; Alice (Long) Hunter; and brother in laws: Warner Moss and George Coombs.
