Donald Keith Wimer

Donald Keith Wimer, age 65, of Renovo, PA, quietly passed  away on Monday, April 2, 2018, after his admission to the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, PA. He had been terminally ill with COPD and diabetes complications.

He was born in Frankfurt, Germany, to an American military family that was stationed abroad. He was preceded in death by his father, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Arthur K. Wimer and a month after his death,  his mother Rhoda Jane Wimer of Carlisle, PA passed away. Also preceding him in death was his brother, Ronald K. Wimer,  his grandparents and numerous aunts and uncles.

Don was a retired policeman who joined the Buffalo Grove, Ill. Police Department at the age of 20 and he later transferred to Vermont where he served on the Wilmington and Brattleboro police departments, as well as the Windham County Sheriff’s Department for a number of years. Later he was a joint owner of a successful auto body shop, which he sold,  before relocating to Boiling Springs, PA to be near his family and raise his children from his second marriage.

His greatest gift was his deep abiding love and loyalty for his children, his family and his friends with whom remained closes to for many years through frequent telephone calls, visits, hunting and fishing trips. Don often said his friends were like brothers to him and they also count as family: Bob Schmidt (Madelyn) of Johnsonburg, Ill, from high school and work; Sheriff Floyd Marenkov (Sherry) of Castle Rock, Col. as police officers on the Castle Rock Police Department; Butch Corie (Barbara) of Brattleburg, Vt.. and partner in the auto body business; his  life long friend, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Frederick Lovelace of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; Sharon Betit, West Dover, Vt.; and Lydia Leiby, Jersey Shore, PA. Don also retained close friendships with his former wives, Wendy James, (Vt.) and Cathy Dyslin (Calif.).

Surviving are his sister, Cheryl-Ann Beetem (Samuel) of Carlisle, PA and his children:
sons, Greg Wimer (Kari) and Justin Wimer, both of Vermont, and Christopher Wimer in PA.; twin daughters: Rebecca Goodwin (Christopher) and Jessica Follett (Sam), all of California; and grandchildren: Abigail, Carter, Greta, Haley and Cora.

Don has been greatly missed by all and surely there was a warm, loving gathering of family and friends to greet and welcome him as he crossed over. Auf wiedersehn, Donald. We will see you again.

Don’s cremated remains will be buried in the family plot in Slippery Rock, PA at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Roat-Kriner Funeral Home, 1133 Bloom Road, Danville, PA
