Don W. Swartz, age 72, of 100 Dutch Hill Road, Bloomsburg, died at his home early Wednesday, July 1, 2020, after an illness.
Born in Bloomsburg on July 31, 1947, he was the son of the late Harold L. and Vera P. (Applegate) Swartz. He spent his life in the Buckhorn area and was a 1967 graduate of Bloomsburg High School.
Don was last employed as a salesman by the former Valley Toy House and previously worked at Alumax, Corp., Bloomsburg.
He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Bloomsburg. He was a 52 year member and Past Exalted Ruler of Bloomsburg Lodge 436, B. P. O. E. and also served as a Past District Deputy for the Northeast District of the Pennsylvania Elks Lodge.
Don was an avid bowler and active in many bowling groups including serving as president of the Pennsylvania State Unit of the United States Bowling Congress; serving as secretary/manager of the Pennsylvania State Bowling Association from 2000 to 2018; and serving as secretary of the Danville, Bloomsburg, Berwick Bowling Association for 30 years and was elected to their hall of fame in 1992.
He served as President of the Pennsylvania Bowling Association in 1996-97 and on their advisory board from 1997 to 2000. He was inducted to the Pennsylvania Bowling Hall of Fame in 2004 and served as area director of the Pennsylvania Bowling Association from 1977 to 1992. He also belonged to the Millville Rod & Gun Club; the Canton Moose lodge and the Canton American Legion Post.
Don served in the Pennsylvania National Guard for a number of years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Darlene A. Lehman, on October 21, 2006 and by a son, Chad E. Swartz, on October 4, 1993.
Surviving are a daughter, Denise A. Hill, and her companion Mike A. Hixson, Berwick; a step-daughter, Lesia, wife of Michael “Eric” Malencore, Stillwater; a step-son, Todd Diehl, and his wife Yvonne, Ephrata; a step-granddaughter, Caitlin Malencore; three step-grandsons: Michael Malencore, Mason Diehl, Gavin Diehl; a sister, Georgia, wife of Gary Ortman, Bloomsburg and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, at 2 p. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg with his Pastor George A. Zerbe of the Emanuel Dutch Hill Bible Church officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p. m. Elks memorial services at 2 p. m.
