David S. Runge, age 72, of Catawissa died peacefully at his home at 11:45 a. m. Friday, March 27, 2020, after a battle with cancer, surrounded by his family.
Born in Bloomsburg on April 24, 1947, he was a son of the late Jack, Sr., and Bessie M. (Vietz) Runge. He resided in Catawissa and Numidia for much of his life and was a 1966 graduate of Southern Columbia High School.
Following high school, he enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps and served in Vietnam during the Vietnam Conflict. After serving three years he was discharged with the rank of Sergeant and he continued to serve in the Marine Corps reserves until his discharge in 1972.
Dave received the Vietnam Service Medal with four battle stars, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, Combat Action ribbon, Good Conduct Medal First Award and the Rifle Marksman Badge.
Following his military service, he was employed in the trucking industry as a driver, mechanic and dispatcher. He was a member of Ft. McClure Post 804, VFW, Bloomsburg and the Dream Machine Car Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Vicki L. Harner, on November 8, 2017.
Dave is survived by a son, David R. Runge, and his wife Erin, Catawissa, a daughter, Alexa, wife of Walter Leck, Catawissa; a granddaughter, Kylie Leck and a brother, Jack Runge, Jr., and his wife Linda, Bloomsburg.
Graveside services will be held at a time to be announced.
