Dale H. Reichart, age 90, formerly of 10 Lee St., Bloomsburg (Lightstreet) died at 5:35 a. m. Friday, July 19, 2019 at Brookdale Senior Living Center in Scott Township.
Born in Orange Township on January 22, 1929, he was a son of the late Ray and Bessie (Megargel) Reichart. He was a life long resident of Lightstreet and a 1947 graduate of the former Scott Township High School. He also attended the former Bloomsburg State Teachers College.
Dale was last employed by the former Donald E. Reichart Lumber & Supply, Inc., in Lightstreet, retiring on January 1, 1994. Prior to that he was employed by the former Columbia Life Insurance Co. for 19 years as Vice President of Underwriting and earlier he was employed by Bloomsburg-Bank Columbia Trust Co. for 11 years.
A long time member of St. Luke Lutheran Church where he served as an usher, sang in choir and also served several terms on the Church council. He also belonged to Oriental Lodge 460, F & AM, Orangeville and Caldwell Consistory, Bloomsburg. He was a member of both organizations for 63 years.
Dale was a life member of the Lightstreet Community Fire Co.; the former Friendship Fire Co., Bloomsburg and the Bloomsburg Fireman’s Relief Association. During the Korean War he enlisted in the U. S. Coast Guard, serving from 1950 to 1953.
He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America attaining the rank of eagle scout and served as treasurer of the Columbia-Montour Council, Boy Scouts of America for 20 years and also on the executive board. He received the Silver Beaver Award in recognition of his many years of service.
Dale was active in many community activities in Lightstreet through the years and also delivered Meals on Wheels. He was an avid gardner growing many different fruits and vegetables which he gave to his friends and neighbors.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Helen Mertz and Phyllis Stas and by five brothers: Charles L. Reichart, Barton Reichart, Paul I. Reichart, Donald E. Reichart, and C. Richard “Dick” Reichart.
Dale is survived by his wife, the former Dorothy M. DeMott, with whom he celebrated his 61st wedding anniversary on May 28, 2019; two sons: Kirk R. Reichart, and his wife Ann, Bloomsburg and David J. Reichart, and his wife Beth, Orangeville; two grandsons: Matthew Reichart, and his fiance’ Kristi Peters, Fairbanks, Alaska and Luke Reichart, Bloomsburg; a great-grandson Owen Dale Reichart; a sister, Charlotte “Peggy” Sharpless, Brookfield, Wis. and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a. m. in St. Luke Lutheran Church, 9 St. Luke Way, Bloomsburg, with his pastor, Rev. Dr. Kerry P. Maurer officiating interment will follow in Lightstreet “Highland” Cemetery. Visitation at the Church from 10-11 a. m. Oriental Lodge 460 F & AM will conduct Masonic memorial services immediately following the funeral at the Church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in Dale’s name to St. Luke Lutheran Church, 9 St. Luke Way, Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg.
