Clarence E. "Butch" Long

Clarence E. “Butch” Long, age 80, of Buckhorn, died Friday afternoon, February 23, 2024 at the Gardens of Millville, where he has resided since January 2023.

Born in Bloomsburg on June 1, 1943, he was the son of Charles C. and Cecelia A. (White) Long. He was a resident of Buckhorn since 1971.

Butch was employed by the Bloomsburg School District as a custodian for over 23 years, retiring in 2008.

He was a member of the former Christ Lutheran Church in Buckhorn. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping, and especially the time he spent with his great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Dorothy M. Strause, on July 19, 2006; two brothers, Edward A. Long, Sr. and Clair C. Long; and a sister, Kay McCloskey.

Surviving is a daughter, Penny M., wife of Michael A. Nearhoof, of Buckhorn; three grandchildren, Tony Nearhoof, of Buckhorn, Ausialee, wife of Andrew Breisch, of Denver, and Nathan Nearhoof, and his wife Sarah, of Danville; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, David L. Long, and his wife Darcy, and Terry R. Long, and his wife Connie, both of Bloomsburg; a sister, Edith M. Kitchen, of Berwick; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday February 29, 2024 at 11 a.m. in the Dean W. Kriner Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with the Rev. Gordon E. Smith, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church, Espy, officiating. Interment will be made in Columbia Hill Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 10-11 a.m.
