Carolyn L. (Dietterick) Horvat, 76, of State Route 487, Benton (Sugarloaf Township, died on Thursday, November 6, 2025 at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.
Born in Berwick on January 4, 1949, she was a daughter of the late Jack and Stella (Stevens) Dietterick. Her early life was spent in Berwick and she graduated from Berwick High School in 1967. She resided in Benton for ten years and previously lived in Jersey Shore for30 years.
Carolyn was employed at the Berwick Ribbon factory and last as a waitress at the Buckhorn Truck Stop.
She collected cook books and loved to read romance novels. She raised herbs and was a member of the Herb Guild. Carolyn was known as the Garlic Goddess and participated in the Hot and Stinky Herb Fest at Drums.
Surviving is her husband Martin J. Horvat and they celebrated their 8th wedding anniversary on October 28, 2025; a son, Terry Lee Force and his wife Christine of Huntersville; three grandchildren: Alexander Force and his wife Erica of Dover, Rebecca Force of Huntersville, MacKenzie Force and her companion Avery of Forest City; four siblings: Sharon wife of Fernando Cerasoli of Berwick, Ralph Dietterick and his wife Phyllis of Unityville, twins, June Dietterick and Jane Rinker of Nazareth and most importantly her black poodle, Rosie.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg with Rev. Richard J. Mowery of Christ The King Catholic Church officiating. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a. m.
