Carl G. Bower

Carl G. Bower, 96, of Upper Woodcrest Road, Berwick passed away at his home on Thursday, June 19, 2025.

Born in Berwick on July 4, 1928, the only child of the late Gordon C. and Ruth (Sherman) Bower. He was a lifelong resident of Berwick and a 1946 graduate of Berwick High School.

Carl was an active member of the Berwick business community founding Car-Mar in 1962 and General Tank in 1983.

He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Bloomsburg. He also was a longtime member of the Berwick Elks Lodge and had been a member of the Berwick Rotary Club for many years. Early in his life, he was the Scoutmaster of Berwick Troop 12.

Carl served his country with honor as a member of the U. S. Navy from 1946 to 1948. He was a member of the Valley of Bloomsburg Post 273, American Legion.

He was an avid reader and enjoyed going to the McBride Library. His hobby for many years was boating on the Chesapeake Bay. He also enjoyed traveling, visiting all 50 states as well as Europe and several other countries.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife, the former Ruth A. Sponenberg, on October 5, 2017.

Surviving are three sons: David A. Bower and his wife Marion of Gettysburg, Daniel L. Bower and his wife Peggy of Conyngham, Richard C. Bower and his companion Elaine Gunderson of Berwick; five grandchildren: William Edward Bower, Justin C. Bower, Lindsey L. Bower and her fiance William Ficco, Andrew R. Bower, Shelby L. Bower, and her fiancé Tyler Reilly; and a great grandson, Tobey Reilly.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025, at 11 a. m. in Pine Grove Cemetery, Walnut Street, Berwick, with his pastor, Rev. John A. Mohan officiating. Military honors will be provided by the U. S. Navy and the Berwick-Nescopeck VFW Honor Guard.
