Bruce F. Weir, age 87, of Bloomsburg, went to be with his Lord on Saturday July 5, 2025 at the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia.
Born on June 7, 1938 in Newburgh, New York, he was the son of the late Isabella (Tweed) Weir. Bruce grew up in Milford, Connecticut, where he attended Milford High School. He went on to join the Navy as a HIM Aviation Electrician’s Mate on the USS Shangri La.
Bruce was an electrician by trade, retiring as an electrician at Bloomsburg University.
Sports were an interest in his life, playing fast-pitch softball in Sunbury in his earlier years. He was a fan of UCONN girls’ basketball, UNC men’s basketball, and Notre Dame football. He especially loved watching his grandson, Max, play midget football and watching the streaming of his granddaughter, Maisie, play fast-pitch softball.
Bruce was a member of the Lightstreet United Methodist Church, Lightstreet, where he and his wife taught Adult Sunday School.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Patsy (as he called her); two children, Kim Weir and Amy Weir, of Danville; two stepchildren, John Mahon and his wife MJ, of Bloomsburg and Jodi Phifer, and her husband Doug, of Brambleton, Virginia; two grandchildren, Maisie Phifer and Max Phifer, of Brambleton, Virginia; and two grand dogs, Wicket and Holly.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, July 14, 2025 at 12 p.m. in the Lightstreet United Methodist Church, 1630 Main St., Bloomsburg, with his pastor, Pastor Rebecca Cuddeback, officiating. Interment will follow in the Lightstreet “Highland” Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741 or to the Lightstreet United Methodist Church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg.
