Alvin O. Wintersteen, age 90, 330 W. Third Street, Bloomsburg, died early Monday, January 16, 2017 at his home.

Born in Madison Township, Columbia County, on October 9, 1926, he was a son of the late John and Ella (Brobst) Wintersteen. He resided in the Danville area for 20 years, before moving to Buckhorn where he resided for 20 years, moving to Bloomsburg in 2014.

Alvin was last employed by Jack Metzer Ford - Lincoln, Danville for 18 years, retiring in 1993. Earlier he was employed by the former Bloomsburg Motors and before that at the former AL Wirt’s Service Station at Main & Leonard Streets in Bloomsburg.

He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Columbia Hill.

Alvin loved nature and being in the woods; hunting, cutting wood and snow mobiling. He also was an avid football fan. He loved visiting Eagles Mere, Rickett’s Glen State Park and Poe Valley State Park.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 20 years, the former Lois I. Ticknor, who died  on April 16, 2013; by three sisters: Alice Wertz, Elsie Snyder, Elizabeth Wintersteen; and by two brothers: Henry Wintersteen and Franklin Wintersteen.

Surviving are his former wife and good friend,  Nancy (Wirt) Wintersteen, Bloomsburg; a daughter, Theresa, wife of Charles Filipowicz, Bellefonte; a step-daughter: Debbie, wife of Curt Livezey, Plymouth Meeting; three grandchildren: Kenton Filipowicz, and his wife Gwen and Lauren Filipowicz, both of Bellefonte and Clayton Filipowicz; one great-granddaughter, Shea Filipowicz, Bellefonte; a brother, Harold Wintersteen, and his wife Nancy, Bloomsburg; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a. m. in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 726 Columbia Hill  Road, Danville, with his pastor, Rev. Robert A. Kerchoff officiating. Interment in Columbia Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the Church on Saturday after 10 a. m.

The family will provide flowers. Memorials may be sent to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 726 Columbia Hill Road, Danville, PA 17821.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market st., Bloomsburg.
