Alice F. Lewis

Alice F. (Benscoter) Lewis, aged 94, of 435 Main St., Benton, died peacefully at her home on Saturday morning, Nov. 6, 2021 under the loving care of her daughters Cheryl and Sandra and Commonwealth Hospice of Berwick.

Born in Ross Township Luzerne County on April 22, 1927, she was a daughter of the late James W. and Helen G. (Quick) Benscoter. She was a 1944 graduate of the former Huntington Mills High School and resided in Benton since 1951.

Alice was a member of the Benton United Methodist Church. She also belonged to the PA Mountain Laurel Decorative Painters and the Sugarloaf Scarlet Ladies of the Red Hat Society.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, A. Clair Lewis on Nov. 27, 1983, a daughter Carol L. Mas on March 13, 2019; a granddaughter Jill Elaine Webster on March 8, 1969, a son-in-law Larry L. Hess on Aug. 7, 2019 and a sister, Marjorie Miller.

Alice is survived by two daughters: Sandra K. Hess of Wernersville and Cheryl A. Lewis with whom she resided, five grandchildren, eight great- grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren, a half- brother, Otis Farver, Jr. and his wife Glovene, Unityville and a half-sister, Nancy Minier, Muncy.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2 p. m. in the Benton United Methodist Church, Main Street, Benton, with Pastor Tyler Rauhauser officiating. Interment in St. Gabriel’s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner. Inc., Funeral Home, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg.
