Valdessa I (Corson) Stuempfle

November 27, 1928 ~ October 6, 2019 (age 90)

Valdessa I. (Corson) Stuempfle, age 90, 205 Edgar Ave., Bloomsburg, died at 6:15 p. m. Sunday, October 6, 2019 at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where she was a patient.

Born in Williamsport on Nov. 27, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Edgar and Irene M. (White) Corson.  She was a 1947 graduate of Williamsport High School and a resident of Bloomsburg since 1973.

Dessie was employed by the former Bell Telephone Co., in Williamsport as a switchboard operator prior to her marriage

An active member of St. John Lutheran Church, Espy, where was a member of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (WELCA). She also belonged to the Danville Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR); American Legion Auxiliary;  the Bloomsburg Hospital Auxiliary; and was a life member of the Espy Fire Co. Auxiliary and of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

Dessie was an active volunteer for many groups, including the American Red Cross;  Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble;  and the Geisinger-Bloomsburg Hospital. She was a former Girl Scout leader.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 60 years, E. Ray Stuempfle on Jan. 17, 2010; two brothers,  Eugene J. Corson and Richard Kohlberger.

Dessie is survived by a son, Rev. Richard R. Stuempfle, and his wife Cindy of York; three daughters: Sharon I., wife of Steven  Weaver, Brick, N.J.; Nancy R. Dincher, Williamsport; Ellen L., wife of Charles Rubenstein, Bloomsburg; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a sister, Freda M. , wife of Vern Pidcoe of Jeffersonville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 18, 2019 at 4 p. m. in St. John Lutheran Church,  2575 Old Berwick Road, Bloomsburg (Espy) with her pastor, Rev . Gordon E. Smith,  officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. The family will receive friends from 3:30 - 4:00 p. m.

In lieu of flowers, friends may remember Dessie with a contribution to either the Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble, 226 Center St., Bloomsburg or St. John Lutheran Church, 2575 Old Berwick Rd., Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
