Ruthanna (Sharpless) Sneidman

December 26, 1928 ~ April 13, 2018 (age 89)

Ruthanna (Sharpless) Sneidman, age 89, of Bloomsburg, passed peacefully on Friday, April 13, 2018, at Sunset Ridge Health & Rehabilitation (formerly Signature) in Scott Township, with family at her bedside.

Ruthanna’s parents, Paul Leslie and Romayne (MacAllister) Sharpless, welcomed her arrival on December 26, 1928, at the Bloomsburg Hospital. While their only child, Ruthanna grew up on Fifth and Center Streets with her parents and an extended family that included her grandparents, C.H. and Agnes (Garrison) Sharpless, Aunt Harriett Sharpless, and Uncle Lloyd Garrison nearby.

Ruthanna graduated from Bloomsburg High School in 1946 and married Donald Charles Sneidman, also from Bloomsburg, on October 22, 1949, and celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary until his passing on January 21, 2007. While they first lived in nearby Almedia, they returned to Bloomsburg to live together at 217 West Fourth Street and raised their four sons, Leslie Charles; Donald Bruce; Stephen Craig and his wife, Victoria (Vukmanic); Robert Paul; and daughter, Paula Ann Mix and her husband, Scott Richard Mix and their two children, Genevieve Romayne Mix and Ian Charles Mix.

Ruthanna was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Bloomsburg, since 1941 and sang in the Sanctuary Choir in her younger years, actively supported their banner ministry, as well as the handbell choir.

While Ruthanna worked in the office of her father’s Bloomsburg Worsted Mill on Sixth Street near Railroad Street, raising her and Don’s five children was her life’s passion. Starting in 1976 Ruthanna and her husband Don together created and produced many craft and wood items for sale at a booth manned by their adult children in the Educational Building at the Bloomsburg Fair for 29 years.

In her later years, Ruthanna found new friends that she welcomed into her family through the care, energy, support, and love they extended to her and her children. These caregivers--Shelly, Shannon, Katie, Ian, Grace, and Karen---were always there as true lifegivers providing unlimited support, comfort, care, and love day and night to Ruthanna and her family.

There will be no visitation or funeral services. A private interment in the Old Rosemont Cemetery will be made at the convenience of the family.

For many years Ruthanna shared her home with both dogs and cats---Sir Charles, Mr. Bear, Miss Murphy, and Diesel. A loving, black cat (also named Diesel) was rescued about three years ago from the Animal Resource Center, (PO Box 439, Bloomsburg). Ruthanna and Diesel would be pleased with any support you choose to provide the Animal Resource Center (www.nokillarc.org); or simply share your remembrances of Ruthanna with your friends, family, and others you might meet.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg.
