Gladys M. (Long) Haas, age 94, 140 Adams Drive, Danville (Pepper Hills) and formerly of Railroad St., Danville for many years, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, January 12, at 3:45 p. m.
She was born on January 31, 1925 in Danville, a daughter of the late Roy and Mildred (George) Long. She was raised in an orphanage north of Philadelphia until the age of 18 at which time she returned to Danville where she met her future husband, Charles E. Haas.
Glady, as she was known by her friends and family, was employed at several local industries and retired from the laundry department at Geisinger Medical Center, where her biggest claim to fame was making Cabbage Patch Kids clothing for a special hospital fund raiser and she was featured on local television for doing this.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Danville, and enjoyed the fellowship of her friends there.
She loved playing cards, going out to eat and spending time with her family. She also loved to read, sing and was a very good dancer. Glady was extremely kind and giving to all who knew her.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Haas, on December 8, 1966; by a son, Larry Lee Haas, on May 28, 2010; two brothers: Bill Long and Harry Long, both of Danville, and her longtime companion Albert F. Wanzie, of Mt. Carmel.
Surviving are three children: James E. Haas, and his wife Carol, Turbotville and Steven W. Haas, Danville; a daughter, Deborah K. Aquino, Danville; four grandchildren: Teresa Torres, Harrisburg; Kevin Haas, Danville; Lisa Scott Milton; Annie McCarty, Millville; ten great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2 p. m. in the Roat-Kriner Funeral Home, 1133 Bloom Road, Danville, with her daughter- in- law Carol Haas, officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Danville. Friends and family may call beginning at 1 p. m.
