Gayle M. (Sponenberg) Yocum, age 68, formerly of West Street, Bloomsburg, died at 8:07 p. m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. She was in failing health since July 20, 2019.
Born in Bloomsburg on May 29, 1951, she was a daughter of the late David and Margaret (Lizardi) Sponenberg. She was a lifelong resident of the Bloomsburg area and a 1970 graduate of Bloomsburg High School.
Gayle was employed as a nurse's aide at the former Bloomsburg Health Care Center for 45 years, retiring in 2016.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Kim Manhart and Marjean Manhart.
Gayle is survived by two sons: Leroy C. Yocum, and his wife Mary Jo, Bloomsburg and Christopher M. Yocum, and his wife Pamela, Annville; five grandchildren: Lauren Yocum, Devon Yocum, Trevor Yocum, Laney Yocum, Savannah Yocum; two brothers: David Sponenberg, and his wife Darla, Bloomsburg and L. Robert Sponenberg, and his wife Darlia, Orangeville; four sisters: Barbara Richendrfer, Bloomsburg, Kathleen Yeager, South Carolina, Joanne, wife of David Cleaver, Bloomsburg, Nancy, wife of James Breisch, Millvile; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg with the Rev. Gordon E. Smith, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church,. Espy, officiating. The family will greet friends from 9 - 10 a. m.
