James C. Kellum, Sr.August 17, 1926 ~ July 23, 2017 (age 90)
James C. Kellum, Sr., age 90, 1188 State Route 239, Huntington Mills, died at his home on Sunday morning, July 23, 2017. He had been in failing health for the past two months.
Born in Jacksonville, North Carolina on August 17, 1926, he was a son of the late Leon T. and Della Mae Kellum. He resided in Huntington Mills since 1949.
Jim was a lifelong farmer and also operated an insurance agency from his home. He was a member of the Town Hill United Methodist Church. His hobbies were golfing, hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed the family picnics with his children and grandchildren at the pond.
Jim served with the U.S. Army during World War II, serving with the 11th Airborne Division, the first American troops to set foot on Japanese soil.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Sarah I. Rupp, on April 20, 2012; by a daughter, Holly Mae Kellum, on July 20, 1977; by a son in law, Robert L. Switzer, on January 4, 2016; and by five brothers and one sister.
Surviving are four children: Penny C. Switzer, Shickshinny; Pamela Irene, wife of Lon Fadley, Manassas, Virginia; James C. Kellum, Jr., and his wife Rosalind, Danville; Hope Ellen Welsh, Berwick; eight grandchildren: Lon Fadley, Jr.; Ethan Fadley (Dianna); Rob Switzer (Joli); Holly Welsh (Mike Rorke); Jade Fetterolf (Caleb); Todd Switzer; James C. Kellum, III (Holly); Matthew Kellum; three great grandchildren: Avery Kellum; Hannah Fadley; Mason Fadley; a sister, Velma, wife of Dwight Morton, Girard, Ohio; a brother, Al Kellum, Jacksonville, North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1:30 p. m. in the Town Hill United Methodist Church, 417 Town Hill Road, Shickshinny, with his pastor, Rev. Bethany P. Wood officiating. Interment in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge, with military honors by the combined veterans group.
Viewing will be at the Town Hill United Methodist Church on Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p. m. or on Saturday from 12:30 p. m. to 1:30 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be sent to the Town Hill United Methodist Church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Benton.
