Cynthia Kay Buckenberger, age 67, 198 Mt. Zion Drive, Danville, died peacefully while surrounded by her family at the Neighborhood Hospice, West Chester, at 2:55 p. m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, after enduring an admirable battle with cancer.

A lifelong resident of Danville, she was born on October 20, 1950, the daughter of Marjorie (Folk) Fullmer  Schooley of Danville and the late Harold H. Fullmer, Jr. Cindy was a member of the Class of 1968 at Danville Area High School and graduated from the Reading Hospital School of Nursing in 1971.

For over 35 years she was a psychiatric nurse and administrator at Danville State Hospital, where she is remembered as a zealous patient advocate and dedicated caregiver, whose mission was driven by competence, ethics, and compassion  for the Danville community.

Cindy welcomed every friend and family member into her home, where she enjoyed cooking, gardening, knitting, reading and entertaining at Christmas, her favorite time of the year. After her retirement, she would travel frequently with friends and family. She lived her life for her beloved son Matthew and her two year old granddaughter, Mia, who brought her constant joy. She will be remembered for her generous heart, warm smile and vivacious spirit. She is loved by  the scores of people whose lives she enriched by her kindness, her grace and her optimism, even in the face of repeated cancer treatments. She touched many hearts and set an example of strength, courage and dignity for all who were fortunate to know her.

Cindy was a member of the Grove Presbyterian Church, Danville and the Pennsylvania Nurses Association.

Cindy is survived by her adoring husband and partner of over 50 years, John R. Buckenberger, who she married on March 16, 1974; her son Matthew John Buckenberger, and his wife Nicole and granddaughter Mia of Phoenixville; her mother and step father, Marjorie and Dale Schooley of Danville; her brother, Harold H. Fullmer, III, and his wife Charlene, Wayne; her sister, Suzanne, and her husband Olee Stewart, LasVegas, Nevada; nephews and nieces: Reed Fullmer; Grace Fullmer; Jenny, wife of Lars Bangen; Jeremiah Foley, and his wife Paige;  three sisters-in-law: Sandy (Buckenberger) Fegley; Shirley (Buckenberger) Kline;  Carol (Buckenberger) Balliet; and two aunts: Gretta (Fullmer) Lynn and Connie (Fullmer) Cabera.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 11:00 a. m. in Grove Presbyterian Church,  330 Bloom Street, Danville, with her former pastor, Rev. Robert  J. Andrews, officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:30 a. m. until the time of the service.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Roat-Kriner Funeral Home, 1133 Bloom Road, Danville.
