Charles C. "Charlie" Rubenstein, age 88, of 303 Country Lane East, Orangeville (Stony Brook Circle), died at 12:52 a. m. Sunday, September 10,  2017 at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he had been battling a lengthy illness

Born in Lightstreet on February 22, 1929, he was a son of the late Frank O. and Mary K. (Hoss) Rubenstein.  He resided in the Lightstreet area his entire life.

Charlie was a devout member of St. Columba Catholic Church, Bloomsburg. He also belonged to Valley of Bloomsburg American Legion,  Post 273, where he was a life member.

He was employed by Maier's Bakery, Berwick, for 24 years as a truck driver, retiring in 1992.

Charlie served with the US Army during the Korean War as a member of the 1st Battalion of the 511th Airborne Infantry Division and was honorably discharged in 1952.

His hobbies were gardening, woodworking, hunting, riding a motorcycle, NASCAR racing and watching the Phillies ball games.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Grace Lutz and Belle Levan, and a brother George H. Rubenstein.

Charlie is survived by his wife, the former Thelma M. Frey, with whom he celebrated his 66th wedding anniversary on April 10, 2017; three sons: Charles R. Rubenstein, Jr., and his wife Ellen; Douglas L. Rubenstein, and his wife Linda, all of Bloomsburg; Gary M. Rubenstein, and his wife Mary, Moncure, North Carolina; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:30 a. m. in St. Columba Catholic Church, 342 Iron Street, Bloomsburg, by Rev. Patrick A. Devine. Interment with military honors by the combined veterans group will be at the convenience of the family. A viewing will take place on Tuesday from 6-8 p. m. at the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg.

The family will provide flowers. Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 1948 E. Third Street, Williamsport, PA 17701.
