Dean was born in Williamsport. At the age of 4 he moved to his mother's hometown of Fleetwood in Berks County. He graduated from Fleetwood High School in 1956.
After high school Dean attended Kutztown State Teachers College, now Kutztown University, for 2 years before enrolling at the former Eckel's College of Mortuary Science in Philadelphia.
A 1959 graduate of Eckel's, Dean moved to Lancaster where he served his internship and 5 years as a licensed funeral director. Following his time in Lancaster, he moved to Benton where he purchased the Holcombe Funeral Home, renaming it the Dean W. Kriner Funeral Home.
Dean is married to the former Jill A. McHenry, a descendant of one of the first settlers in Northern Columbia County, Daniel McHenry.
Dean is a member of the National Funeral Directors Association, Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association, and the Central Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association. He is also a member of the Oriental Lodge 460, F & AM, Orangeville and other Masonic organizations. Other memberships are the Bloomsburg Rotary Club and Columbia-Montour Torch Club.
Maurice was called into the funeral service industry shortly after his 1984 graduation from North Schuylkill High School, Fountain Springs. He completed the required courses and graduated in 1987 from Northampton Community College, Bethlehem with an Associates Degree in Funeral Service Education.
Since that time he began his career as a full-time funeral director at the Kriner Funeral Homes in October 1988, and has been serving the community for more than 25 years. He is a past president of the Benton Lions Club and also the Bloomsburg Kiwanis Club. He also belongs to the Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association and Central Pennsylvania Funeral Directors.
Maurice is married to the former Cheryl Nagg, with whom he has three charming boys: Connor, Kieran and Cullen. He and his family currently reside in the Benton area.
